Mell Singapore makes maiden voyage to Darwin
A replacement vessel commissioned for the Mariana Express service between Darwin and the Asia Pacific region made its maiden voyage to the Northern Territory port on Friday.
The 1118 teu Mell Singapore, which has dual cranes, will replace the 700 teu Mell Salatar as part of the Singapore-based shipping company’s move to streamline its service.
Mariana Express director Jenny Chen said that the move followed a tripling of trade volumes from Asia to Darwin in the past six months.
“We are committed to servicing Darwin and the Asia Pacific region with larger, faster, reliable vessels which reduce transit times for our customers,” Ms Chen said.
Mariana Express provides a fortnightly service which includes Kaohsiung in Taiwan, Shanghai in China and Townsville.
